travel has a way of both expanding and restricting possibility.

you can’t travel with a full studio kit (unless you are paid to do so). and on a trip to toronto, armed with just an early iPhone, we went to the ripley’s aquarium and found ourselves hypnotized by the jellyfish installation. that left a sense memory that (along with the franz kline paintings at the art gallery of ontario) demanded a second visit with a better camera.

we went back to the ripley a few years later with a sony bridge camera and a tripod and as we approached that part of the aquarium, i ran off and sat across from the jellyfish wall, blending into the background on account of my usually dark wardrobe and darker skin.

the video you see captures a series of moments silently witnessed. i sat there for 45 minutes, most of it alone. but when people came to interact, the shadows, the innocence, the selfies, the disinterest - all of it told a story about the complexity of man.

and it felt like the perfect backdrop to a song we titled “perfectly purple peace diamond”.
