anthony is the artist in residence at connect gallery.
in permanent residence, it appears, because the bond he and rob share is wonderful to witness.
he is a perceptive person. the living embodiment of “still waters run deep”. i was asked to help him put together a package to promote a show he had coming up in Los Angeles. i had no idea what we were in for.
steve did the bond call, and due to the compressed time frame, i only had time to scan the first few answers. i found a turn of phrase that stuck out to me and told steve “let’s go.”
anthony sat down, i hit record, and we talked. he opened up, from dark nights of the soul, to his experience as a scientific illustrator, to his incredible academic background, to becoming someone who teaches himself everything - from painting to coding, all in pursuit of telling layered stories through visual art.
to talk with anthony - on camera or off - is to be rewarded. laughter, insight, something to process on your own time. and it didn’t take me long to understand what makes connect gallery the space for him and he the right fit for the gallery.
